Chris Jericho On Why There Won't Be “Stupid Idiot” WWE Merchandise, Being Pushed By Younger Talent

Source: FanSided

Ted Gruber has a new interview on FanSided with Chris Jericho, who was promoting his new podcast network, “The Jericho Network.” Below are a couple of highlights:

His current WWE run:

“It’s always a blast coming back. I think the work I’m doing this year has been the best of my career. At least since 2008-2009. It’s fun being heel and being locked into something I haven’t been doing for years. I think it’s really grown on people.

“Let me tell you the guys I’m working with that are 10-15 years younger than me are pushing me to that next level. It’s so much fun because my desire level continues to rise and work that much harder. As long as I still can move and feel like I’m at my peak, I will continue to do this. If I ever start feeling like I’m going down the totem pole, ability wise. People say age is just a number and it really is. Psychologically, I feel like I’m at the top of my game.”

News On When Chris Jericho's Current WWE Run Is Ending

When WWE will release some “Stupid Idiot” merch:

“I have a real rule that when I’m heel I don’t want the WWE selling my merchandise. I don’t want someone in the crowd wearing a shirt with that phrase and thinking it’s funny when it’s supposed to be an insult. I still have enough old school in me that I don’t want people wearing my slogans or phrases that are supposed to be booing me. Does it really matter? Probably not. But it’s one of those things to me that it does matter. Maybe it will piss you off that there are no shirts out there so it will make you boo or hate me more.”

Jericho also discussed his new podcast network, his band Fozzy, whether social media has hurt wrestling and more. You can read the full interview by clicking here.

Brock Lesnar Flagged By USADA For Potential Anti-Doping Violation

Former WWE and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has been flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a potential anti-doping violation that stems from an failure of an out-of-competition drug test that took place on June 28th.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that USADA received the results on July 14th, five days after Lesnar’s UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt. Per their policy, USADA has not disclosed the substance that Lesnar tested positive for.

Below is the UFC’s official statement regarding the matter:

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28, 2016. USADA received the testing results from the June 28, 2016 sample collection from the WADA-accredited UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory on the evening of July 14, 2016.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed in close proximity to Lesnar’s bout at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.

Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

Wilder ready to put on a show

Deontay Wilder says he is hoping to put on “a show” with Chris Arreola in their WBC world heavyweight title fight.

Wilder (36-0-KO35) is a big favourite going into the fourth defence of his crown, which will be shown live on Sky Sports on Saturday night, while Arreola is hoping to cash in on an unexpected opportunity.

Wilder was scheduled to fight in Russia against mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in May, but that fight fell through when Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance meldonium.

“We needed a guy that was going to come and fight,” Wilder said ahead of the bout in Alabama. “We needed a guy that wasn’t going to come and make excuses. He may still make excuses at the end talking about weight.

“But we mainly needed a guy that was going to come and give the people of Alabama a show, and worldwide.

“There’s no other guy that we could have had that was going to give me the fight that I was looking for out of a fighter than Chris Arreola. That’s why we chose him.”

Wilder said he needed a quick fight after being down following cancellation of the fight with Povetkin, who has denied any wrongdoing.

“I can’t wait because I’ve been wanting to pound something,” Wilder said. “I’ve been wanting to pound something since May. I got teased a little bit. I don’t like to be teased. I got teased a little bit and now it’s time.”

Arreola (36-4-1-KO31) is a big underdog going into the bout, with some oddsmakers installing Wilder as a 1/30 favourite. Arreola has lost in previous world title shots to Vitali Klitschko and Bermane Stiverne, who Wilder beat to claim the WBC crown in January 2015.

“I told my wife before she got here to make sure she gave $1,000 to one of my cousins to go put at least $1,000 on myself,” Arreola said. “That’s $30,000. I’ll take that all day every day.

“To me, that’s very disrespectful. Extremely disrespectful. Those are almost Buster [Douglas] odds.”

The 6ft 7in Wilder has knocked out every opponent except Stiverne, but his three title defences have all gone at least into the ninth. Wilder is coming off a ninth-round knockout of Artur Szpilka in January.

Arreola hasn’t fought since December, when he won a split decision over Travis Kauffman. It was declared a no contest because Arreola tested positive for marijuana.
