Hearn: Two-city offer on table

Two-city offer is on the table

Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg could box in Manchester and Belfast, says Hearn

Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton could sign a two-fight deal to meet in Manchester then Belfast if Eddie Hearn’s offer is agreed.

The long-awaited super-bantamweight collision could become a double-header in each fighter’s hometown if Frampton’s representatives return to the negotiating table with Quigg’s Matchroom promoter Hearn.

The Manchester man quickly halted Kiko Martinez last weekend on the same night his Northern Irish rival recovered from two knock-downs to defeat Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, and Hearn now wants to arrange their all-British scrap in two cities.

I’m happy to commit to a two-fight deal – one in November in Manchester, and one in Belfast in the spring or summer. That’s not a problem.

Eddie Hearn

He told Sky Sports: “I’m happy to commit to a two-fight deal – one in November in Manchester, and one in Belfast in the spring or summer. That’s not a problem.

“A double-header could smooth negotiations. That’s always been discussed. We can agree the split in advance.

“If it’s a good fight a rematch will happen anyway. Both guys think they will win the fight and move on. But they’ll probably find that, if the first fight is entertaining which everybody knows it will be, then the biggest money in the division remains a rematch.”

Quigg’s explosive stoppage of Martinez compared to Frampton having to battle back from adversity against Gonzalez Jr hands the Englishman the advantage in negotiations, Hearn believes.

But he has confirmed that Matchroom’s original offer to Frampton’s representative still stands – but if the Ulsterman’s management don’t respond, Quigg has another world champion lined up instead.

“That offer is still on the table, there was no time-frame,” Hearn said. “Some people have told me to reduce the offer after Quigg’s recent performance! But we don’t need to, it was fair before and it’s even fairer now.

“Scott is in a much better position than he previously was following his destruction of Martinez so it’s very difficult for me to revise my offer.

“From my conversations with them, Frampton and his team won’t acknowledge that Scott’s stock has risen considerably. However, if they did, it’s a fight that could happen immediately.

“It’s going to take someone to swallow their pride for this fight to happen. But after last weekend, it’s difficult for that to be Quigg.

“For us, fighting Frampton remains our favourite option but we’re in deep negotiations with Nonito Donaire about a fight in either Dubai or Manchester later this year.”

Jones: I'll stop Rose again

Carson Jones claims his daughter punches harder than Brian Rose and warned the Blackpool fighter to prepare for life outside the ring ahead of their rematch at the weekend.

Rose was stopped inside a round in front of his hometown Blackpool fans on Valentine’s Day earlier this year by the American light-middleweight.

The 30-year-old had staggered the Oklahoma fighter earlier in the round but Jones responded by landing two quick right hands which prompted the referee to step in.

Rose successfully appealed for a rematch, claiming Ian John-Lewis had stopped the fight prematurely, and will get his chance to get his career back on track this Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

Jones, however, dismissed Rose’s chances of redemption, claiming the outcome will be the same when they meet at the KC Lightstream Stadium in Hull.

“I know I will stop him again,” said Jones. “I don’t know what round but it’s going to come. He wasn’t a threat in the first fight and he won’t be on Saturday. He’s a decent fighter but he won’t trouble me.

“What will Brian do after I beat him again? That’s up to him, it’s not my concern. I know how it feels to lose and I wouldn’t want anyone to give up on pursuing their dreams. But I don’t think he is cut out for the top.

“Maybe the fight could have carried on but that’s not down to me, that’s the referees job and he did what he thought was right.

“My daughter punches harder than he does. He caught me and I was a little stunned, but not hurt. I always start slow. He doesn’t have big punching power so he wasn’t going to be able to finish me off, but I knew I had to jump on him early when I hurt him in order to catch him when he was wobbling.

WWE: Daniel Bryan cleared to compete by neurologist

After Daniel Bryan was forced to forfeit the Intercontinental Championship back on May 11 due to an unspecified injury, the former World Champion has revealed the details of his injury. As reported by Wrestling-Online.com, Daniel Bryan was interviewed recently by Busted Open Radio where Bryan revealed that his neurologist has cleared him to return to in-ring competition, but WWE’s medical team has not yet cleared him. Bryan then explains that the reason he has been out of action these last few months is not due to issues with his neck or shoulder as previously thought, but he has been kept on the shelf due to a concussion. WWE is notorious for its tough stance on concussions and it’s not at all surprising that WWE is holding off on Bryan’s return until they are absolutely sure he is healthy enough to compete.

Bryan also comments that his neurologist told him that his brain is working on a higher level than most athletes who have never suffered a concussion. Bryan also revealed that his neck is 100% while his right arm is around 85%, saying that his right arm will never be 100% since he waited so long to get surgery to correct the injury.

The Walking Dead: Gritty realism pays off

What would it be like to try to survive in a world overrun by animated corpses that are bent on consuming human flesh? The Walking Dead has inspired countless zombie stories in the forms of novels, video games, and television shows, but TWD does it far better than anyone else, and I’d suggest that it’s because The Walking Dead has, from the outset, focused on the possible reactions of real human beings in the midst of an impossible situation. This isn’t art for art’s sake. The show feels like an exploration of what the world would be like and what lengths real-life people might go to in order to survive and protect those they love in the midst of a world overrun by the undead.

Stories today are often based on what is commonly known as the Hero’s Journey, popularized by Joseph Campbell in a book called The Hero with a Thousand Faces, which George Lucas borrowed inspiration from when he was writing Star Wars. The Hero’s Journey is a structural blueprint by which a normal character with perhaps a significant character flaw that’s harming him and those he loves discovers inside of him a desire for something which he doesn’t currently have. In order to attain the goal of getting what he desires, he faces opposition by an antagonist and his own character flaw. As he battles back and forth over the course of the story, the character grows and in the end becomes a hero by not only attaining the goal of what he wanted, but by gaining what he need as well, which was to overcome his character flaw.
